Alan Nairn – Mediator

Alan has been involved in mediation in one form or another for over thirty years.

Initially, his mediation was mainly concerned with workplace issues whilst he was in the armed forces, dealing with change management, working conditions issues and problems arising from workplace bullying. He was also heavily involved in health care mediation and complaints. Later, he worked on drawing up and mediating commercial contracts in a variety of fields, including logistics, construction and service provision, and the management of complaints for the Admiralty Board.

In 2012, he co-founded Hampshire Mediation, a panel of three mediators offering mediation across a wide range of subject areas.

He is fully accredited with the Family Mediation Council for family mediation, and with the Civil Mediation Council for both civil and commercial mediation and workplace disputes. He is a member of the Family Mediators Association.

Alan’s work involves the resolution of disputes arising over a wide variety of issues and against the backdrop of sometimes challenging sensitivities, which require novel and innovative solutions. He approaches these challenges diligently and with integrity, providing and nurturing an atmosphere of trust and respect for the participants.

He is an effective and able communicator and specialises in helping parties in the most intractable disputes reach mutually acceptable agreements, often against challenging time frames. He is experienced in mediating many areas, including the arrangements for children and questions concerning property and finance.

Alan has Bachelor’s degrees in science and in law, and a Master’s degree in international relations. He completed his civil and commercial mediation training at the London School of Mediation in 2012 and his family mediation training with the ADR Group, an affiliate of the Family Mediation Council, in 2013. He is a member of the Chartered Management Institute.

In his spare time, when he is not being pulled around the woods by his two dogs, Alan is a volunteer instructor with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, teaching navigation and field skills to students at the local school.
